About The TGCA
The Association
The HF Traditional Gypsy Cob Association (TGCA) was originally founded in January 2014 by Amanda under the name "HF Gypsy Vanner Association". It was reborn in May 2015 under its current name - a name it was felt was more in keeping with the traditional breed Mother Studbook, the real life TGCA.
The TGCA deals with the registration, showing and breeding of traditional Gypsy Cob horses, a breed native to the British Isles. Originally bred to pull the wagons of Romany people living in England and Ireland, the Gypsy Cob is a hardy, powerful and intelligent animal, with a temperament even and patient enough to be handled by the entire family. These incredibly gentle horses have been bred for generations for their versatility, stamina and nature.

---Colour Genetics & The Gypsy Horse
Gypsy Cobs come in nearly every colour under the rainbow. Instances of pearl, silver, grey, creme and dun have all been genetically tested in Cobs, as have W20, Sb1 and Lp.
However, there are some exceptions to this "rule". To date, there are no purebred Gypsy Cobs known in the world in the following colours/patterns:
*Champagne
*Overo (Frame and Splash)
*and therefore, Tovero (Tobiano + Overo).
Tovero is probably the biggest misconceived colour in SIM Gypsy horses. Gypsies have W20 and Sb1, both KIT mutations which can - especially in conjunction with Tobiano - result in "tovero" like markings.
Tobiano + Sb1 (classic "sabino") usually looks like a tobiano with roaning and jagged belly spots. Tobiano + dominant white (W20, etc) can result in a number of things, including complete masking of the tobiano (think Cobalt, for those familiar with Gypsy horses), or appear as a combination of Tobiano and Splashed White (as W20 in particular greatly resembles Splash). W20 with Tobiano can also look like a "classic" Tobiano, but with jagged edges to spots, belly spots and roaning (similar to Tobiano + Sb1)
